Alta Youth Club (AYC) is a recreational skiing program for ages 7 – 16. Minimum skill level is confidently skiing blue runs with parallel turns and a pole plant. AYC consists of skiing 14 Saturdays or 14 Sundays with a group of peers and coaches. The approximate coaching ratio is one per eight skiers. The skiing experience includes skill drills, powder skiing, mogul skiing, racing and jumping. AYC groups will often use “easier” terrain to develop quality movements and athletic skiing. More difficult terrain will be used strategically in the lesson plan to enhance skills and create excitement. Appropriate activities for a group are driven by the skill level and age of the skiers.

The Alta Freeride Division (AFD) is an expert-level skier program for 10 – 16 year olds. AFD is a unique program offering comprehensive exposure to big mountain free skiing. Several intra-team competitions throughout the season are used to drive skill acquisition and mastery. AFD coaching emphasizes the IFSA judging criteria for big mountain skiing: line selection, attack, fluidity, technique and control. In addition to the competitive emphasis, the goal of AFD is to develop young skiers with experience, passion and respect for skiing as a sport and lifestyle. In pursuit of this goal AFD coaches foster the ethics of safety, sportsmanship and mastery of expert skiing skills. Special activities include skiing at Snowbird and jump training at the Utah Olympic Sports Park

(801) 799-2273

Alta Youth Telemark (AYT) is designed to introduce telemark skiing to strong alpine skiers and improve the telemark skiing of youth who already have experience. Minimum alpine skiing ability is consistent parallel turns (with a pole plant) on all blue terrain and confidently skiing some black terrain. This program is for students ages 10 to 16. No telemark experience is required, but students must provide their own equipment. AYT looks to inspire participants to explore the diversity of telemark and produce life long skiers passionate about the sport. The program will be goal oriented, focusing weekly on one skiing skill to result in an improvement in the total skier by season end.

This group will be offered on Saturdays for seven weeks from January through March. The ratio of students to coaches will be approximately one to eight. Come join us to share the fun and excitement of youth telemark!
